How does the Accredited Employer Work Visa work?
The employer moves first. It must be accredited and hold an approved job check for your role, and then it sends you a link to apply. The visa ties you to that employer, job and location; changing any of them means applying for a Job Change or a variation of conditions. You cannot work a second job.
You must show two years of relevant experience or a qualification at level 4 or higher, and a bachelor's degree counts whatever its subject. Experience evidence must come from someone other than you, such as payslips, tax records or employment certificates. Immigration New Zealand says a CV on its own is not enough. If your job is at skill level 3 to 5 you must also show you can speak and understand English.
For residence, the Skilled Migrant Category points pathway needs 6 points. A recognised UK bachelor's degree is worth 4, so most UK graduates add points from skilled work in New Zealand, which can be worth up to 3 more. Pay at three times the SMC wage threshold, currently NZD $105.00 an hour, earns all 6 points on its own.

How does hiring work in New Zealand?
Immigration New Zealand says most people look for jobs on employment websites or through recruitment companies, and that approaching employers directly is accepted and often successful. Recruiters are paid by the employer, so you should never pay one to place you. Employers and agents also cannot charge you fees for a job offer.
Immigration New Zealand describes workplaces as relaxed but professional, usually smaller and flatter than you may be used to, with managers called by their first name. Prepare for interviews to cover how you work with people, not only what you have done. Every employee must get a written employment agreement, and for an Accredited Employer Work Visa that agreement cannot include a trial period.

Where are jobs in New Zealand advertised?
Use the general boards for reach and the sector boards for depth. Immigration New Zealand notes that many job sites post roles where employers expect applicants already in the country, so a clear visa and arrival line matters even more.
- Private job boards such as SEEK and Trade Me Jobs.
- NZ Government Jobs (jobs.govt.nz): public service vacancies.
- Kiwi Health Jobs for health roles, the Education Gazette for teaching and Engineering New Zealand for engineering.
- Recruitment companies: you can register with more than one.
- Employer websites: INZ recommends checking them for roles not yet advertised elsewhere.
- INZ's Register for information service, which sends job alerts from New Zealand recruiters matched to your profession.

Can you apply for New Zealand jobs from the UK?
Yes. Make the logistics obvious. Put your visa route and arrival month at the top of your CV and in the first paragraph of your cover letter. Say you can interview by video and offer slots that suit New Zealand hours. Auckland and Wellington are between 11 and 13 hours ahead of the UK depending on the time of year, so their morning is your evening.
If you need an Accredited Employer Work Visa, target employers that are already accredited. Immigration New Zealand publishes an accredited employer list, and checking it before you apply saves wasted effort. It also tells you whether an offer is genuine: INZ warns about job offer scams and says to confirm a potential employer is accredited.

Are UK qualifications recognised in New Zealand?
For visa purposes, usually through NZQA. Immigration New Zealand says most overseas qualifications need an International Qualification Assessment when a visa requires a comparable New Zealand qualification. There are skill shortage, standard and teaching versions of the assessment. Washington Accord engineering degrees, Sydney Accord engineering technology degrees and qualifications on the Skilled Migrant Category exemption list do not need one.
Regulated jobs need New Zealand registration, and INZ says you must get it before you apply for a visa to do that work. Nurses register with the Nursing Council, doctors with the Medical Council and teachers with the Teaching Council. Architects, electricians, plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers also need registration. Start early: registration is often the slowest step.

How long does it take to get a job in New Zealand from the UK?
Allow several months. When we checked, Immigration New Zealand showed 80% of UK Working Holiday Visa decisions within 2 weeks and 80% of Accredited Employer Work Visa decisions within 5.5 weeks, but those figures move, so check before you plan.
- Month one: choose your route on the INZ site. Start any NZQA assessment or registration now.
- Month one to two: rebuild your CV for New Zealand and update LinkedIn to your target city.
- Month two to four: apply, contact recruiters and take video interviews.
- Offer stage: for an Accredited Employer Work Visa, the employer completes its job check and sends your application link.
- Before you fly: gather your visa evidence, such as payslips and police certificates if INZ asks.
- First weeks: apply for an IRD number and open a bank account, which needs one.

Which sectors have shortages in New Zealand?
The official list is Immigration New Zealand's Green List. Tier 1 roles allow a Straight to Residence Visa and Tier 2 roles a Work to Residence Visa after 24 months. Search it for your job title, because the requirements differ by role.
INZ's own sector guidance names three areas. Teaching: most teaching roles, including primary and secondary teachers, are on the Green List and allow an immediate residence application. Health: INZ describes consistently high demand in almost every discipline, with a fast track to residence for many occupations. Construction: INZ reports consistent demand for builders, managers, estimators, quantity surveyors and project engineers.

Who can give you advice on New Zealand visas?
We are recruiters and CV writers, not immigration advisers, and nothing here is immigration advice. Immigration New Zealand says you do not have to use an adviser. If you choose to, use a licensed immigration adviser, a certified New Zealand lawyer or someone else legally able to give immigration advice. INZ will not prioritise your application because you use one.
