UK to Qatar
Qatar CV format 2026, with free template
A Qatar CV is a two-page English CV that answers a Doha recruiter's screening questions at the top: nationality, location, visa status, your package and, if it is short, your notice period. Leave the photo off. Put licences, registrations and chartered status on page one, and write qualifications exactly as certified, because they must be legalised before you can work. Here is the format section by section, with a free template.

How is a Qatar CV different from a UK CV?
The layout is the same: newest role first, two A4 pages, achievements with numbers. What changes is the top third of page one. Doha recruiters screen on nationality, visa status, location, package and notice before they read your experience, exactly as we saw on our Gulf desks. Leave those out and you sit in the maybe pile.
Qatar adds its own weight on credentials. GOV.UK says you will need your foreign qualifications legalised to work there, and in healthcare every practitioner's education, training and experience is checked against the original source before registration. A CV that states qualifications, dates and registrations precisely makes those checks faster. One that rounds dates or shortens titles slows them down.

What goes at the top of a Qatar CV?
Five lines, in this order. Your name. The job title you are targeting and your nationality. Your location and visa status. Your mobile with the +44 code, your email and LinkedIn address. Then your package and, if it is short, your notice period.
For visa status, most UK applicants write Requires employer sponsorship. That is the normal position: GOV.UK says that to work in Qatar you need a work residence permit, and that your employer acts as your sponsor and arranges it with your Qatar ID card. If you already live in Qatar, state your residence status instead, because the employer will want to know whether it is hiring locally or bringing you in.
Give a move date you can keep. Doha recruiters plan start dates around the permit process, and a vague Available soon reads as a candidate who has not decided.

Should you put your salary on a Qatar CV?
Yes. In the UK it is a mistake. In Qatar, as in Dubai, leaving it off is the mistake. An employer with a budget will not guess, and an unstated salary loses to a stated one.
Write it the way Gulf offers are built: usually a basic salary plus allowances, such as housing and transport, quoted monthly. Give your current UK package once, as an annual figure in pounds marked gross. GOV.UK confirms there is no income tax on salaries or wages paid in Qatar, so a recruiter who sees an unlabelled UK figure may compare it with a tax-free offer and think you are too expensive.
Think about family before you write a number. GOV.UK says that to sponsor family members you need a valid residence permit and a salary of at least QAR 10,000 a month, and that women can only sponsor if they work in certain professions or are single mothers. If you plan to bring your family, your expectation has to clear that bar.

Do you need a photo on a Qatar CV?
No. Photos are still common on Gulf CVs, and some recruiters will tell you to add one. We leave it off. Employers, agencies and job boards run CVs through applicant tracking software, and an image can break the parsing so your details land in the wrong fields or not at all. Your face belongs on LinkedIn.
Nationality goes on, because it decides the permit process. Date of birth, marital status, religion and passport number stay off. Family plans belong in the interview or offer conversation, not on the CV.
Where do licences and registrations go on a Qatar CV?
On page one, in a short Licences and registrations section straight after your profile. Teaching qualifications, chartered status and professional registrations are often the first thing a Doha recruiter checks, and they should not be buried at the bottom of page two.
Healthcare has the strictest process. The Department of Healthcare Professions at the Ministry of Public Health is the sole authority regulating healthcare practitioners in Qatar. It requires primary source verification of every applicant's education, training, experience and other credentials, through approved providers, before you apply for registration.
So list every qualification, training post and employer with exact month and year dates that match your certificates and employer records. A date that differs from the record will hold up verification and, with it, your start date.

How do you show UK qualifications on a Qatar CV?
Write each qualification exactly as it appears on the certificate: full degree title, classification, university and year. Do not shorten or translate it, because the legalised certificate is what the authorities will see.
Qatar is not on the Hague Conference's list of Apostille Convention parties, so a UK apostille alone is not the end of the process. GOV.UK sets out three steps: the FCDO Legalisation Office in the UK, then the Qatar Embassy in London, then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar, where you or your employer take the document for attestation.
Start the first two steps before you apply if you are serious about Qatar. Then add a line such as Degree certificate legalised by the FCDO and the Qatar Embassy, March 2026 under the qualification, which tells an employer the slowest part is under way.

What should you leave off a Qatar CV?
Everything on this list either breaks the software, wastes space or gives a recruiter a reason to pause.
- A photo, logos, text boxes and two-column layouts.
- Date of birth, marital status, religion and the number of children.
- Passport number, National Insurance number and any Qatar ID number.
- A long notice period. State it only if it is immediate or 30 days.
- Your salary history role by role. Give the current package once, at the top.
- Full referee details. One line offering references is enough.
- UK shorthand a Doha reader will not know, such as internal programme names or unexplained acronyms.
Do Qatar employers expect a cover letter, and do they use ATS?
Send a short cover note when you apply directly or through a job board that allows one. Three paragraphs: the role and why you fit, one or two results that match the advert, and your availability and relocation position. Recruiters read the CV header first and the letter second, if at all.
Assume software reads the CV before a person does. Large employers, agencies and job boards such as LinkedIn screen applications against the advert. Use the advert's own words for skills and systems, standard headings such as Professional experience and Education, and a single column. Save it as a PDF unless the portal asks for Word.
Then make LinkedIn match the CV exactly. Gulf recruiters search LinkedIn for candidates, and a title or date that differs between the two raises a question at the worst moment.

FAQ
CV format for Qatar: common questions
Do I need a photo on my CV in Qatar?
No. Photos are common on Gulf CVs, but we leave them off because an image can break applicant tracking software and push your details into the wrong fields. If an application form asks for a photo, upload it there and keep it off the CV.
Should I put my salary on a Qatar CV?
Yes. State your current package and your expected package near the top. Mark your UK figure as gross, because there is no income tax on salaries in Qatar and recruiters compare like with like.
How long should a Qatar CV be?
Two A4 pages for experienced candidates. Put the screening details, your credentials and your strongest results on page one, because recruiters decide in the first scan.
Do I need to get my degree legalised for Qatar?
Yes. GOV.UK says you will need your foreign qualifications legalised to work in Qatar. The steps are the FCDO Legalisation Office, the Qatar Embassy in London, then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar.
Is a Qatar CV the same as a Dubai CV?
Very close. The Gulf rules we apply to Dubai CVs hold in Qatar: package, nationality, visa status and a short notice period up front, no photo, two pages. Qatar employers put extra weight on licences, registrations and verifiable qualifications.
Should I mention my family on a Qatar CV?
No. Raise it at interview or offer stage. GOV.UK says sponsoring family needs a valid residence permit and a salary of at least QAR 10,000 a month, so make sure the package you ask for supports it.
Should a Qatar CV be in Arabic?
Not for most expatriate roles. Write it in English unless the advert is in Arabic or asks for an Arabic version. If you speak Arabic, list it under languages with your level.
